Welcome to Dr. Ritter Engineering, an innovative company based in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, specializing in the development and optimization of perception systems for automated driving. Founded and led by Dr. Werner Ritter, a leading expert with over 30 years of experience in the automotive industry, we deliver customized solutions to enhance vehicle perception—especially under adverse weather and low-visibility conditions.

After completing my degree in computer science at TU Berlin with a focus on artificial intelligence and  computer vision (graduating with distinction, grade 1.0), I began my career in 1988 as a research associate at the Daimler-Benz Research Center in Ulm. There, I developed the world’s first real-time traffic sign recognition system and played a key role in the development of the Mercedes-Benz night vision system.

In recent years, I have led several publicly funded research projects, including RobustSense, Dense247, and AI-SEE. These initiatives have not only driven significant advancements in automotive perception but have also earned international recognition. With over 75 scientific publications and more than 3,000 citations, I bring deep expertise in academic research, project coordination, and international collaboration.

At Dr. Ritter Engineering, our mission is to accelerate the safe and scalable deployment of automated driving by enabling all-weather perception. This includes:

• the detection of relevant objects under poor visibility conditions,
• automated in-vehicle visibility monitoring to ensure ODD compliance, and
• validated methods to measure and verify system performance in adverse weather.
